Product Overview

Metabones Nikon G to BMPCC4K Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x (Black Matt)

The Metabones Nikon G to BMPCC4K Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x (Black Matt) allows a full-frame Nikon G lens to be mounted onto a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K MFT-mount camera. While doing so, the adapter's optics help to maximize the connected lens's apparent angle of view while providing a 1-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range.

FAQs

What advantages does the Metabones Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x provide for filmmakers using the BMPCC4K?

The Metabones Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x enhances the performance of your Nikon G lenses when used with the BMPCC4K by allowing a full-frame lens to achieve a wider apparent angle of view. It effectively reduces the crop factor from 2.02x to 1.29x, enabling filmmakers to capture more of the scene with their full-frame lenses. Additionally, the adapter increases the maximum aperture by one stop, resulting in improved low-light performance and greater depth of field control, which is crucial for achieving cinematic looks.

Can I use this Speed Booster with lenses other than Nikon G series?

The Metabones Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x is specifically designed to work with Nikon G series lenses as well as other Nikon F-mount lenses, including AF-D, AI-P, AIS, AI, and non-AI lenses. However, it is not compatible with DX (APS-C) lenses or any other lens types that do not cover full-frame sensor widths, as these lenses may not project a usable image onto the micro four-thirds sensor.

How does the optical design of the Speed Booster affect image quality?

The Speed Booster ULTRA features a patented 6-element, 4-group optical design that is engineered to optimize the image quality for the BMPCC4K's filter stack thickness of 2.4mm. This design helps to improve the modulation transfer function (MTF), resulting in sharper images with better contrast and colour fidelity. The internal coating minimizes reflections, which further enhances the overall image quality by reducing flare and ghosting effects.

Is manual aperture control difficult when using this adapter?

Using the Metabones Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x requires manual aperture control since it does not support electronic aperture control or autofocus. While this may seem challenging for some, many filmmakers appreciate the creative control and flexibility that manual adjustments provide. It allows for precise control over exposure and depth of field, which can be particularly beneficial in achieving specific artistic effects in your cinematography.

What construction features enhance the durability of this Speed Booster?

The Metabones Speed Booster is constructed from high-quality aluminium and brass materials, ensuring both durability and a lightweight design. The brass mounting rings prevent wear and tear over time, while the internal flocking reduces internal reflections. Additionally, a rubber gasket protects the M43 mount connection from dust and moisture, making the adapter suitable for various shooting environments and conditions.

Can this adapter be used with other Micro Four Thirds cameras?

No, the Metabones Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x is designed exclusively for the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (BMPCC4K). Attempting to use this adapter with other M43 cameras, such as those from Olympus or Panasonic, may not only result in compatibility issues but could potentially damage the camera. It is crucial to use this adapter only with the specified Blackmagic models to ensure optimal performance and safety.

What tripod compatibility options does this adapter offer?

The Metabones Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x includes a detachable tripod foot that is compatible with Arca-Swiss style ball heads. This feature allows for easy attachment to quick release plates using a 1/4”-20 screw. The foot is designed to match the exact height of the BMPCC4K camera body, ensuring stability and optimal balance when mounted on a tripod, which is essential for steady shooting in both handheld and studio environments.
