Tascam Compact 32-Bit-Float Field Recorder and Timecode Generator

Compact 32-Bit Float Field Recorder / Timecode Generator for Videographers

Offering 32-bit float, no-clip recording, two premium XLR/TRS mic/line inputs, timecode generation, jam-sync function, and optional Bluetooth wireless monitoring, the Tascam FR-AV2 is a compact audio recorder packed with professional features for busy DIY videographers working in the field without a crew and who don't want to worry about clipping their audio.

The FR-AV2's lightweight fiberglass enclosure is designed for use with camera rigs. The vibrant 2" colour LCD display maximises visibility and operability when shooting outdoors. Fine-tune your sound before capture with the onboard low-cut filter, compressor, limiter, and noise gate. Up to 512GB of audio is recorded to a microSDXC card, at rates up to 192 kHz. The unit can also function as a 2-in / 2-out USB-C audio interface for Mac/Windows computers and iOS devices, enabling you to track professional-grade audio with timecode to your iPhone/iPad rig using a USB-C cable. The FR-AV2 can be powered via three AA batteries, USB bus power, or with an AC adapter (available separately).

No-Clip Recordings

The FR-AV2's enhanced 32-bit float recording up to 192 kHz means you'll never have to scrap a recording due to distorted or weak audio levels. When recording at lower bit depths like 24-bit and 16-bit, loud sound sources can cause digital clipping that cannot be fixed during editing.

By using dual analog-to-digital converter technology, recordings are captured with greater dynamic range and clarity-you can increase the level of dialog without creating a distracting change in tone or dynamics.

Premium XLR/TRS Combo Inputs with Advanced Processing

Connect microphones and professional line-level sources directly to the FR-AV2's two Ultra HDDA preamps. Capture audio with maximum clarity and ultraquiet operation with an EIN of -127 dBu.

In addition, the 3.5mm stereo input supports the use of wireless microphones, lavalier mics, and any other audio sources you might have in your arsenal.

Advanced Input Processing: Fine-tune your audio before capture with onboard low-cut filter, compressor, limiter, and noise gate.

Timecode Generation, High-Precision Sync

FR-AV2 generates and reads timecode via 3.5mm in/out for DSLR/mirrorless cameras and also supports Jam-Sync for any external timecode devices.

The FR-AV2 is equipped with a high-accuracy temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TXCO), designed for ultraprecise and consistent sync performance, even in high-temperature environments.

Using the optional AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter, you can also wirelessly sync timecode with supported Atomos UltraSync Blue devices.

Wireless Audio Monitoring

Adding the optional AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter allows you to wirelessly monitor audio signals on the fly.

Depending on your recording environment, choose one of three modes to confirm you are receiving the best signal possible, including connectivity, monitoring quality, and latency settings.

Dual wired and wireless monitoring work in parallel, which means 2 users can monitor the audio simultaneously.

Professional Audio Interface for iPhone Videographers

The FR-AV2 can easily fit into your iPhone video rig with a USB-C cable. This allows high-quality audio from professional XLR inputs and the ability to send and sync timecode.

Via TC in/out, with your phone, the FR-AV2 transforms your mobile videos into pro-grade productions.

32-Bit Float Audio Interface for Mac/Windows

The FR-AV2 functions as a 2-in / 2-out USB-C audio interface for Mac/Windows computers supporting 32-bit float.

Wireless Control with Recorder Connect App

The free downloadable Tascam Recorder Connect App for iOS, iPad OS, and Android allows you to simultaneously control multiple FR-AV2 and DR-10L Pro units from your portable device.

The AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter (available separately) is required.

High-Capacity Audio Recording

Even when using 32-bit recording mode, the FR-AV2 provides the recording capacity you need to handle long video shoots.

with support for up to 2GB on a microSD card, 32GB on a microSDHC card, and 512GB on a microSDXC card, you'll spend less time swapping cards and more time creating content.

Auto File Save Function Offers Safety and Security

Tascam's unique Auto File Save function prevents data loss in the unforeseen event of power loss. Recorded data is automatically saved every 20 seconds, which minimises loss when faced within unexpected hurdles.
