The 100-400mm f/4.5 GM OSS is a versatile constant aperture supertelephoto zoom, providing wildlife and sports photographers with a zoom option that still provides maximum optical performance.

Versatility without Compromise

Unlike the original 100-400mm GM zoom, which continues to be available, this new lens uses an internal zoom mechanism, giving extraordinary durability and reliability. Focus has been upgraded, along with stabilisation, giving exceptional optical performance in any situation, and detailed consideration has been given to the total design, ensuring ease and security of operation for all users, from amateur to professional.

Class-Leading Autofocus

Four XD Linear motors, two for each focus group, provide the exacting focus performance that advanced sports and wildlife photographers require. Compared to the original 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM, the new 100-400mm f/4.5 GM boasts a 3x improvement in focus speed and a 50% improvement in tracking performance, which translates into more keepers after every shoot. This improved focus performance extends to challenging shooting conditions like 120fps capture and capture during zoom actuation.

Acquire and Capture

Rapidly shifting between 100mm and 400mm within a short quarter-turn zoom throw, the 100-400mm f/4.5 GM allows photographers to quickly acquire wide and then punch in as desired for capture. Making use of the lens' full compatibility with the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters available from Sony, this workflow can be adapted for a wide variety of shooting scenarios.

Portable and Reliable

Weighing in under 2kg and built to withstand the elements, the 100-400mm f/4.5 GM is suitable for a huge range of outdoor applications. A comfortable carrying grip is thoughtfully built in to the tripod foot for ease of carrying, and a security lock supports extra security for remote shooting, along with full dust and weather sealing throughout for total peace of mind.
