FAQs

How does the NiSi Cinema V-ND Variable Viewing Filter improve my lighting setup process?

The NiSi Cinema V-ND Variable Viewing Filter allows for real-time adjustment of light intensity while you are setting up or focusing your lights. By using this filter, you can directly view the effects of varying light conditions on your scene without needing to adjust your lighting setup multiple times. This makes it easier to achieve the desired exposure and mood for your shot.

What are the benefits of using a variable ND filter in cinematography?

Variable ND filters offer the flexibility to control exposure without affecting the aperture or shutter speed. This is particularly beneficial in cinematography where maintaining a specific depth of field and motion blur is crucial. The NiSi Cinema V-ND filter's range of 1 to 6 stops provides versatility for shooting in different lighting conditions, whether outdoors in bright sunlight or indoors under controlled lighting.

Can the NiSi Cinema V-ND filter be used with different types of lenses?

Yes, the NiSi Cinema V-ND Variable Viewing Filter is designed to be compatible with a wide variety of lenses. To ensure proper fit, you will need to select the appropriate filter size that matches the filter thread diameter of your lens. This allows you to use the filter effectively across your camera gear.

Is the NiSi Cinema V-ND filter suitable for both photography and videography?

While primarily designed for cinematography, the NiSi Cinema V-ND Variable Viewing Filter can also be effectively used in photography. Its ability to control light entering the lens makes it a valuable tool for both photographers and videographers looking to achieve creative control over exposure.

How does the optical quality of the NiSi Cinema V-ND filter affect my images?

The NiSi Cinema V-ND filter is crafted with high-quality optical glass, which minimises colour cast and maintains image sharpness. This ensures that your images are not only well-exposed but also retain the clarity and detail needed for professional work. The advanced coating technology helps to reduce reflections and improves light transmission, resulting in better overall image quality.

What is the maximum stop range of the NiSi Cinema V-ND filter, and how does it affect the exposure?

The NiSi Cinema V-ND Variable Viewing Filter offers a stop range from 1 to 6 stops. This range allows you to darken the scene significantly, enabling you to shoot at wider apertures or slower shutter speeds even in bright light. This flexibility is crucial for achieving a cinematic look with controlled depth of field and motion blur.

How should I care for and maintain my NiSi Cinema V-ND filter?

To ensure the longevity and performance of your NiSi Cinema V-ND filter, it is important to handle it with care. Always use a microfiber cloth to clean the filter and avoid touching the glass directly with your fingers. Store it in a protective case when not in use, and avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or humidity to maintain its optical integrity.
