The image processing technology used to form an image with this type of printer cartridge is known as thermal inkjet technology. The advanced built-in print head uses a tiny heating plate to expand the ink which sits inside the tank. This expansion forces the ink through the print heads nozzles and onto the paper. Images are created at superior quality resolution levels compared to other types of print technologies like laser and dot matrix type printing engines.

A print produced with this ink cartridge is abrasion and scratch resistant thanks to the advanced technology invented by Canon to ensure permanent, long-lasting adherence to the media. This process also supports the printer in undertaking larger volumes of work, plus makes it easier to handle and transport the finished product.
