Flattering for Portraiture

The 85mm focal length has often been a favourite for photographers who want to exaggerate the depth of field while also compressing background elements to bring attention straight to their subjects. Ideally suited for portraiture the 85mm lens helps you capture powerful images that help you tell the story.

Ultra-Shallow Depth of Field

With an f/1.4 aperture, the lens can dissolve backgrounds into gorgeous smooth blur isolating your subjects for maximum impact. The 9-bladed circular aperture creates soft circular bokeh that allows you to show your audience exactly what you want them to see.

Image Stabilisation for Steady Shots

Shooting stills and video with a telephoto focal length can make it harder to hold the shot steady so the image stabilisation makes it easier to capture sharp shots handheld. The shake reduction makes it ideal for shooting in natural and low-light situations when you need to get a sharp shot without having a lot of light.

Ultra-Sonic Autofocus Ring Focus Technology

The lens uses a ring-type autofocus system with an ultra-sonic motor (USM) that delivers lightning-quick autofocus performance. The almost-silent focus system gives you the ability to capture spontaneous moments quietly while the full-time manual focus setting ensures you are always in control.

Advanced Optics with ASC coating

Image quality is extremely important when shooting weddings & fashion photography. With an optical construction of 14 elements arranged in 10 groups the 85mm prime ensures maximum sharpness. Glare and ghosting are controlled with Canon's multi-layered Air Sphere Coating (ASC) so you can shoot into the light to capture stunning cinematic flares and make the most of magic hour.

L-Series Construction

The Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 L IS USM Lens fits nicely into Canon's L-Series of lenses with a dust and weather-resistant construction that allows shooting in any weather condition. The lens has a fluorine coating on the front and back elements that offers improved protection for high-quality optics.
