Zoom H5studio 4-Track Handy Recorder with 32-Bit Float Recording

The Zoom H5studio Handy Recorder is a 4-track portable recording solution designed for videographers and content creators who need high-quality audio capture on the go. Featuring 32-bit float recording and an X/Y stereo microphone array with large 19.4mm capsules, the H5studio delivers an extended frequency response for detailed, natural sound reproduction.

At the heart of the H5studio is Zoom's most powerful Handy Recorder yet, featuring a pair of oversized 19.4mm condenser microphones-the largest ever on a Zoom portable recorder. These capsules deliver a wider frequency response and greater sensitivity, offering unmatched detail and richness in every recording. With the ability to handle sound pressure levels up to 140 dB, the H5studio excels at capturing everything from quiet dialogue to loud live performances without distortion. The increased microphone surface area results in a more natural stereo image and enhanced spatial depth, giving your recordings a truly professional edge. Integrated RF shielding ensures that your recordings remain free from interference caused by smartphones, wireless routers, and other electronic devices.

Professional Preamps, 32-Bit Float Recording, and Gain Control

Equipped with Zoom's renowned F-series microphone preamps, the H5studio delivers ultralow noise performance with an equivalent input noise rating of -127 dBu EIN and an impressive 132 dB of dynamic range. These preamps, combined with dual analog-to-digital converters and 32-bit float recording, allow the H5studio to capture the full spectrum of sound without clipping or distortion-even during sudden volume spikes. Unlike traditional recorders that require constant gain adjustments, the H5studio offers a safety net through its 32-bit float architecture, preserving headroom and detail even in unpredictable conditions. Dedicated gain knobs let you fine-tune levels on the fly, saving time in postproduction.

Multitrack Recording and Versatile Input Options

The H5studio supports simultaneous recording of up to six tracks-four isolated mono tracks and a stereo mix-providing a powerful platform for complex productions such as podcast panel discussions, live performances, or sound-design sessions. Record at sample rates up to 192 kHz for high-resolution audio that meets the demands of professional post-production environments. The two locking XLR/TRS combo inputs support +48V phantom power and +4 dBu professional line-level signals, making them ideal for a wide range of microphones and instruments. A 3.5mm stereo mini jack with plug-in power offers additional flexibility for lavaliers, external mics, or wireless receivers. The H5studio also supports Zoom's next-generation Capsule System 3.0, which allows users to swap mic capsules to suit different recording scenarios. The system is fully compatible with 32-bit float capsule modules, offering future-ready expandability as new capsule options become available.

Production-Ready Tools for Seamless Workflow

The H5studio includes an array of built-in features that streamline production and post-processing. Mono mode offers a clean, focused recording path, for interviews, narration, and solo voice work. A low-cut filter helps remove low-frequency rumble from environmental noise, wind, or handling. Additional tools such as file normalisation and export in both 16-bit and 24-bit WAV formats allow you to prep audio files quickly for editing or delivery. Variable speed playback from 0.5x to 2.0x and A-B repeat functions make it easy to review takes and mark key segments during playback. A recording start tone can be used to synchronise audio with DSLR or mirrorless camera footage, making the H5studio an excellent choice for video production teams.

USB Audio Interface and Integrated Monitoring

The H5studio also functions as a full-featured 4-in / 2-out USB audio interface, compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. Record directly into your favorite DAW, livestreaming platform, or mobile app while simultaneously capturing a safety backup to microSD-terrific for both studio and field work. The 20mW headphone output delivers ample volume for real-time monitoring even in noisy environments, while the 3.5mm line-out jack allows direct connection to a camera or secondary recording device. A built-in speaker enables you to quickly spot check recordings without needing external gear, adding another layer of convenience to mobile workflows.

Expandable Wireless Capabilities and Timecode Sync

The H5studio is compatible with Zoom's optional WLM-1 dual-channel wireless microphone system, which includes two transmitters with integrated microphones capable of capturing clean, detailed audio up to 130 dB SPL. This makes it ideal for documentary interviews, event coverage, or spontaneous content creation. For productions that require precise audio/video sync, the optional TCA-1 timecode adapter allows you to generate or receive timecode with sub-frame accuracy. Thanks to its temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO), the TCA-1 maintains drift within 0.5 frames over 24 hours. The H5studio supports wireless timecode sync with systems like ATOMOS UltraSync BLUE, making it a strong choice for multicamera setups and professional video shoots.

Remote Control and Multidevice Management

For remote operation, the H5studio integrates with the Zoom Handy Control and Sync app for iOS, allowing you to control recording functions, manage timecode, and sync multiple Zoom recorders from a single mobile device. With compatible accessories such as the BTA-1 or TCA-1 (both available separately), creators can streamline complex setups and maintain precise timing across multirecorder environments-ideal for collaborative projects or large-scale field shoots.

Accessibility and Multilingual Support

Accessibility is built into the core of the H5studio's design. An audible menu navigation system allows users who are blind or visually impaired to operate the recorder using either the built-in speaker or headphones. The interface supports multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese, ensuring a comfortable and intuitive experience for users around the world.
