Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 A (Model B091) Lens

The 16-50mm F2.8 A (Model B091) covers a versatile focal range1 from wide-angle to mid-telephoto for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Starting at a wide 16mm, it effortlessly captures expansive landscapes, architecture, and wide group shots like family photos even in tight indoor spaces. The mid-telephoto range offers diverse shooting, including snapshots and lovely portraits of parent-child moments.

The 16-50mm F2.8 incorporates "Toned Profile Next," elevating Tamron's signature "Toned Profile" design philosophy to the next level. The aesthetic has evolved from a "sculpted form" into a "mechanical style that resonates with the preferences of modern users." This refined exterior combines a sleek, sophisticated look with the rugged functionality demanded by today's photographers.

By achieving an optimal balance of advanced optical design with special lens elements and refined mechanical engineering, Tamron created a remarkably lightweight and compact lens. Measuring just 79.6mm (3.2in) in length, weighing a mere 305g, and featuring a 55mm filter size, it is the essential "Go-To Zoom." This streamlined build minimises the burden during travel or outdoor activities, while carefully selected barrel materials, including metal, and an ingenious internal design ensure high structural rigidity for reliable shooting anywhere.

Fast F2.8 Aperture Produces Expressive Bokeh and Rendering

This lens defies its compact size by delivering a constant fast F2.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range starting at 16mm wide. The exceptional optical design offers a beautiful combination of soft bokeh and sharp rendering, effortlessly highlighting your subject for deeply expressive images. The bright F2.8 also enables faster shutter speeds in low-light settings, such as indoors or at dusk, to effectively suppress motion blur when capturing active children or fast-moving amusement park rides.

High-Speed, High-Precision AF Captures Every Scene Quietly

The AF drive is equipped with the high-speed, high-precision VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. It reliably captures fleeting spontaneous moments with outstanding subject tracking, smoothly handling the unpredictable movements of pets and children. Furthermore, its superior quiet operation makes it suitable for both still and video shooting in noise-sensitive environments.

Perfect for Travel and Everyday Video Shooting

The 16-50mm F2.8 excels in video shooting, making it ideal for lifestyle clips and travel vlogs (vlogging). The 16mm wide end allows for selfie shots while including the background. Its silent AF and excellent balance when mounted on a gimbal or shooting grip ensure a comfortable recording experience. The Sony E-mount and Nikon Z mount versions support Tamron Lens UtilityTM,3,4 allowing users to assign practical functions for videography.

Close-Up Discovery - Adding Joy to Your Day-to-Day

An MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.15m-0.29m (6in-11.5in) delivers exceptional close-up capability. You can effortlessly frame flowers or cafe scenes with broad backgrounds, leveraging the wide-angle perspective without working distance constraints. This proximity expands your creative options, from expansive wide shots to intimate portraits of a sleeping child framed by soft mid-telephoto bokeh.

Strap-Hole Front Cap for Enhanced Security and Workflow

Designed to be the perfect "always-on" lens that stays mounted to your camera for everyday use, this lens introduces a newly designed front cap featuring dedicated strap holes on both sides. By securing the cap to the camera strap or body using a commercially available cord, the risk of accidental drops or loss is significantly reduced during transit or spontaneous shooting. With no need to constantly pocket or store the cap, this design streamlines your workflow for agile, responsive shooting - allowing you to focus entirely on the decisive moment.

Tamron uses polycarbonate resin (engineering plastic) for our lens barrels of mirrorless cameras. This material is extremely reliable, lightweight, and durable, and also broadly used for such as racing car bodies and F1 racer's helmets. Tamron selects the best material from various grades of polycarbonate and selects a material with thermal expansion/shrinkage comparable to that of aluminium in structurally critical areas. And also, these materials must be carefully determined. These processes allow the product to be comfortably used in a variety of environments.

The environment and facilities for manufacturing optical parts are essential to the quality of the parts. Tamron holds all the equipment and environment in-house to manufacture high quality parts. The combination of the most advanced measuring system and the outstanding craftsmanship molding skills make the most of the selected materials, resulting in extremely high-precision, micron-level parts.

These efforts are based on Tamron's extensive know-how and experience in the manufacture of lenses for industrial as well as photographic lenses. Therefore, these lead to highly reliable products for camera enthusiasts and professional photographers.
