Leveraging the power of a newly developed APS-C sensor, the Sony FX30 provides everyday content creators and aspiring filmmakers with a powerful, yet accessible cinema camera with which to push their cinematic journey to new heights. It blends an imaging pipeline designed for cinematic capture with a comprehensive feature set and intuitive operation to create a complete system for all levels of filmmaking.

26MP APS-C/Super 35 Exmor R BSI CMOS Sensor

The FX30's advanced imaging system is on par with other options in Sony's Cinema Line-capturing detailed 10-bit UHD 4K imagery at up to 120 fps-giving it specs fitting a true cinema camera. The newly developed 26MP APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor are able to create high-quality 4K images with the Super 35 (16:9) area. This system is capable of capturing 14+ stops of dynamic range and benefits from Dual Base ISO architecture to improve low-light performance.

Advanced Cinema Performance and Firmware Enhancements

The Sony FX30 combines professional cinema capabilities with a compact and accessible design, further enhanced by Firmware Version 6.0.0. The update introduces the BIG6 home screen, providing a clear overview of critical recording settings such as frame rate, exposure index, shutter speed, iris, look, and white balance. Additional improvements include Fixed/Variable frame rate control, expanded Focus Magnifier functionality, support for Blackmagic RAW output via HDMI, enhanced network features, and improved workflow integration with Sony's Creators' Cloud platform. These updates streamline operation while improving monitoring, recording, and media management for professional productions.

High-Quality Recording and Picture Control

Built around a high-performance imaging system, the FX30 captures oversampled UHD 4K video from a 6K sensor with full pixel readout at up to 60 fps. High-speed recording is available at up to 120 fps in 4K and up to 240 fps in Full HD, while advanced XAVC HS and XAVC S-I codecs support 10-bit 4:2:2 recording for exceptional image quality and grading flexibility. With support for 14+ stops of dynamic range when recording in S-Log3, filmmakers can preserve extensive highlight and shadow detail. S-Cinetone colour science, Picture Profiles, Creative Looks, and support for custom LUTs provide comprehensive image customisation options for both immediate delivery and advanced post-production workflows.

Intelligent Autofocus and Stabilisation

The FX30 features a Fast Hybrid AF system with 495 autofocus points covering approximately 90% of the image area, delivering highly accurate subject tracking even during high-frame-rate recording. Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking support both humans and animals, while Focus Map and AF Assist functions provide greater creative control during manual focusing. A 5-axis in-body image stabilisation system helps reduce camera shake when shooting handheld, and Active Mode further enhances stability for smooth footage. Gyroscope metadata can also be recorded for advanced stabilisation adjustments within Sony's Catalyst software during post-production.

Compact Design and Professional Workflow Integration

Sharing a similar design philosophy with the FX3, the FX30 offers a lightweight and highly portable body that weighs approximately 544g. Multiple threaded mounting points allow direct attachment of accessories without requiring an additional cage, while an integrated cooling fan supports uninterrupted recording during extended shoots. Dedicated controls, a customisable button layout, and an intuitive video-focused menu system help streamline operation for both solo creators and professional crews. Integration with Sony Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare software enables advanced metadata-based editing, including stabilisation, breathing compensation adjustments, camera rotation correction, and clip organisation.

Comprehensive Connectivity and Media Support

The FX30 is equipped with a versatile range of professional connectivity options to support demanding production environments. Dual CFexpress Type A and SD card slots provide flexible media choices for both standard and high-bitrate recording workflows. A full-size HDMI port supports clean 4K output and 16-bit RAW video transmission, while dedicated microphone and headphone connections ensure professional audio monitoring and recording. USB-C connectivity enables high-speed data transfer and external power delivery, and the Multi Interface Shoe supports advanced accessories, including optional XLR audio solutions. Timecode synchronisation and extensive remote-control options further enhance the camera's suitability for multi-camera productions and professional video workflows.

Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G Lens

A compact design with superb optics and a power zoom function makes the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 G an ideal choice for all types of creators, whether that means you shoot video, stills, or both. This ultra-wide lens is among the lightest in its class and the constant f/4 aperture strikes an ideal balance that is bright enough for available-light shooting while remaining portable for all-day shoots.

Video-Focused Design and Power Zoom Performance

Designed with content creators and filmmakers in mind, the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 G combines advanced video features with a compact and lightweight design. Its electronically controlled Power Zoom system enables smooth and precise zoom transitions, with operation available directly from the lens or compatible camera bodies. Four XD Linear Motors ensure fast, quiet, and accurate zoom movement, while compatibility with Sony's Clear Image Zoom technology can extend effective reach by up to 2x while maintaining impressive image quality. Additional video-centric features include a de-clickable aperture ring for silent iris adjustments, internal zoom and focus mechanisms that maintain a constant lens length, and Smooth Motion Optics technology to minimise focus breathing during recording.

Advanced Optical Performance

Covering an ultra-wide to wide-angle focal length range, the lens offers a versatile 16-35mm zoom range paired with a constant f/4 maximum aperture for consistent exposure and balanced portability. Its sophisticated optical design incorporates two Advanced Aspherical elements, one aspherical element, one ED Aspherical element, and Super ED and ED glass elements to reduce distortion, chromatic aberrations, and spherical aberrations. This configuration delivers impressive sharpness, clarity, and colour accuracy throughout the zoom and focus ranges. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm further enhances image quality by producing smooth and attractive background blur.

Fast Autofocus and Close-Up Capability

An XD Linear Motor autofocus system utilising two independent motors provides rapid, accurate, and near-silent focusing performance for both still photography and video applications. Internal focusing contributes to responsive operation while maintaining the lens's compact dimensions during use. Linear Response manual focus offers a natural and predictable focusing experience, while the dedicated AF/MF switch enables quick changes between focus modes. The lens also performs well for close-up subjects, offering a minimum focusing distance of approximately 24 cm and a maximum magnification of 0.23x.

Compact Build and Intuitive Handling

As one of the most compact and lightweight lenses in its class, the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 G is ideally suited to handheld shooting, travel photography, gimbal setups, and drone applications. Its dust- and moisture-resistant construction provides dependable performance in challenging environments, while a fluorine-coated front element helps repel water, dust, oil, and fingerprints for easier maintenance. Dedicated aperture, focus, and zoom rings offer intuitive tactile control, and the integrated Power Zoom switch allows smooth focal length adjustments for a seamless shooting experience across both photo and video workflows.
