See More of the World with a Compact Wide-Angle Zoom

This compact full-frame F2.8 wide-angle zoom lens is an excellent match for α-series bodies, with advanced technology ensuring that body performance is fully realised from ultra-wide 16 mm to wide 25 mm focal lengths. Outstanding G LensTM resolution and bokeh are available throughout that range, and precision AF means fast, sharp focus. Great for wide-angle stills as well as movies.

Excellent Optical Performance

A Small Wide F2.8 Zoom that Goes Anywhere

With a 16-25 mm range that is ideal for scenery, cityscapes, selfies, travel, and general snapshots, this versatile wide-angle zoom delivers beautiful G Lens rendering and bokeh at all focal lengths in a remarkably compact, lightweight design. You get refined large-aperture wide-angle imaging performance for both stills and movies.

Superb Sharpness at any Focal Length

An advanced optical design using three ED (Extra low Dispersion) glass elements plus four aspherical elements that include one ED Aspherical glass element delivers high resolution throughout the 16-25 mm zoom range in a remarkably compact lens. Flare, ghosting, and colour bleeding are effectively subdued for clear, detailed rendering.

Impressive Close-Up Performance

Maximum magnification is 0.2x (AF)/0.23x (MF) with a minimum focus distance of 0.18 m (0.59ft) (AF)/0.17 m (0.56ft) (MF) at the 16 mm end of the range and 0.24 m (AF) (0.79ft)/0.22 m (0.73ft) (MF) at the 25 mm end of the range for superb wide-angle close-up performance. Wide-angle coverage lets you shoot close while simultaneously capturing the subject's surroundings.

Deep Bokeh Makes the Subject Stand Out

A maximum aperture that remains constant at F2.8 throughout the zoom range, state-of-the-art optical design, and an 11-blade aperture unit all work in harmony to deliver smooth, deep G Lens bokeh in a versatile wide-angle zoom lens. ED glass elements reduce colour bleeding for excellent contrast and clarity.

Superb Autofocus Performance

Af that Maximises Body Potential

Two specially optimised linear motors and a precision control system acquire focus on any subject with remarkable speed and accuracy. Tracking performance is excellent, easily keeping up even with the Sony's advanced model α9 III body at up to 120 fps. Precise, quiet focus is smoothly acquired and maintained even when shooting high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p movies.

Compact and Lightweight Design

High Optical Performance in a Compact Lens

Even though it boasts an advanced optical design that includes four aspherical elements, one of which is ED Aspherical, this lens is only 74.8 mm in diameter by 91.4 mm in length (3 x 3-5/8 inch) . Engineering plastics enhance durability while reducing weight to just 409 grams, making this a low-stress F2.8 choice for long shooting sessions or low-light situations.

Movie Application

F2.8 in a Mobile Zoom is Great for Movies

Wide angles, F2.8 in an agile zoom that can be handheld, quiet AF, and reduced focus breathing make this lens great for movies. Minimal extension and centre of gravity shift make gimbal or drone mounting easy.

More Versatile Movie Features

Movie features provided by the latest α bodies are fully supported. And combined with in-body Active Mode stabilisation it can deliver stable handheld footage at wide angles while walking around. It also supports body breathing compensation and metadata recording.

High Operability and Reliability

Three Control Rings in a Compact Lens

For direct, intuitive creative control when shooting stills and movies, this lens features a full complement of three control rings: focus, zoom, and aperture. The aperture ring click stops can be turned on or off to match the shooting situation.

Comprehensive Control

In addition to three control rings, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G includes a customisable focus hold button and AF/MF switch. Linear Response MF ensures immediate, intuitive manual focus control. Inner focus makes it easy to use rotatable 67 mm filters, such as variable ND types that are often used when shooting movies.

Reliable in Challenging Conditions

A dust and moisture resistant design maximises reliability in challenging outdoor conditions, and the front element features a fluorine coating.
