Optimised for Video and Vlogging

Designed with video recording and vlogging in mind, this lens features an electronically controlled internal Power Zoom mechanism for smooth zoom adjustments during recording. Zooming can be controlled using the integrated lever or zoom ring on the lens, as well as compatible camera body controls. Its internal zoom and focus design maintains a consistent lens length during operation and helps minimise shifts in the centre of gravity when mounted on a handheld gimbal. The quiet Linear AF system and Linear Response MF provide smooth autofocus and natural manual focusing, while Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) helps reduce focus breathing.

G Series Optical Performance

The ultra-wide-angle zoom provides a versatile 10-20mm focal length range, equivalent to 15-30mm in full-frame format, making it suitable for handheld vlogging, selfies and everyday video recording. Its constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent exposure settings throughout the zoom range. The optical construction incorporates three aspherical elements, two ED elements and one ED aspherical element to help minimise distortion, spherical aberrations and chromatic aberrations. A circular diaphragm also contributes to smooth and natural background bokeh.

Refined Focusing Performance

The lens uses a dual Linear Motor system with two separate motors to deliver quick, quiet and precise autofocus and subject-tracking performance. Its internal focusing design maintains a consistent overall length while providing responsive focusing operation. An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel allows convenient switching between autofocus and manual focus. For close-up photography, the minimum focusing distance is 5.1 inches at 10mm and 6.7 inches at 20mm in manual focus, with a maximum magnification of 0.18x. When using autofocus, the minimum focusing distance is 7.9 inches, with a maximum magnification of 0.14x.

Lightweight Design and Intuitive Handling

Combining compact dimensions with versatile functionality, this lens weighs approximately 6.3 oz and measures 2.2 inches in length, making it suitable for handheld shooting and travel. Its dust- and moisture-resistant construction provides added practicality when working in challenging conditions. The integrated Power Zoom lever and dedicated zoom ring offer convenient focal length adjustments, while compatible Sony Alpha cameras support on-camera zoom controls and adjustable zoom ring rotation direction. Remote zoom operation is also available through the optional GP-VPT2BT Wireless Shooting Grip or a connected smartphone.
