A compact synthesis of Sony's Cinema Line innovations, a-series still-image rendering quality, and advancements in AI-based recognition technology, the a6700 Mirrorless Camera puts powerful and versatile imaging capabilities into the hands of ambitious content creators. Powered-up by its combo of the latest 26.0MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR processor, the camera nevertheless weighs less than its predecessor, resulting in a mobile workhorse capable of an unstrained 11 fps continuous stills capture or stress-free UHD 4K video oversampled from a 6K resolution, making it a formidable multi-tool for the multi-hyphenate creative.

26.0MP Exmor R CMOS Sensor and BIONZ XR Processor

The Sony a6700's advanced imaging system is powered by the 26MP APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor, a combination introduced in the FX30 Digital Cinema Camera that is capable of 10-bit UHD 4K imagery at up to 120 fps or a top continuous shooting rate of 11 fps with AF and AE and up to 59 compressed raw still images in bursts. The introduction of the back-illuminated structure to the camera's sensor gives it a higher resolution without sacrificing sensitivity. With an ISO range of 100-32000 that's expandable to ISO50-102400 when shooting stills, the camera boasts low-light performance with minimal noise and more than 14 stops of dynamic range.

AI-Powered Autofocus and Image Stabilisation

The Sony a6700's AI Processing Unit brings a host of enhanced capabilities to the camera's autofocus and image stabilisation systems, ensuring smooth handling and clarity no matter the shooting conditions. The camera's 759 phase detection points in stills mode and 495 points in video mode, covering 93% of the image area, are enhanced with AI-powered subject recognition performance and real-time tracking. Other autofocus features include focus bracketing in up to 299 images with sequentially-shifted focus points, focus accuracy in low light down to EV -3.0, focus breathing compensation, autofocus assist, focus mapping, and focus peaking during autofocus.

Vlog-Friendly AI-Enhanced Framing

Additionally, the AI Processing Unit recognises and tracks subjects when recording video, seamlessly auto-cropping to maintain the subject in a prominent position in the frame and lending ease to otherwise difficult camerawork. This tracking can be custom located within the frame and adjusted for speed and sensitivity, all at the touch of a finger.

Image Stabilisation

The camera's pixel-level 5-axis optical image stabilisation system, which compensates for five different types of camera shake encountered during handheld shooting of stills and video, is algorithmically optimised for precision detection and control down to a single pixel. The AI Processing Unit also improves communication between the body and the lens, providing more stable framing before shooting. This allows users to confidently use any lens, even adapted lenses, for critical imaging without encountering blur from camera shake.

Advanced Rendering

For stills-shooters, the a6700 offers a wide range of colour renderings and compressions for optimal image quality and storage management, led by the introduction of the High Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format, available here in 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 options. Users also have the choice between Compressed and Lossless Compressed options when shooting raw. The AI Processing Unit also helps to achieve better exposure results in Auto mode, achieving a 20% increase in reliability over the a6600 according to manufacturer testing, with applicable algorithmic adjustments made for skin tone, backlit situations, and white balance. The same Creative Looks presets available in video are also available when shooting stills, allowing additionally for user-defined configurations with eight adjustable parameters. For optimal viewing of stills when tethered to select monitors and televisions, the a6700 now offers a stills-designed Hybrid Log-Gamma mode that delivers accurate dynamic range in 10-bit HEIF format.

Enhanced Handling and User Experience

The Sony a6700 is designed for intuitive operation, featuring a newly added front command dial that provides faster access to key settings and improved control during fast-paced shooting situations. A redesigned grip enhances comfort and stability during extended shooting sessions while improving access to the camera's primary controls and dials. The durable magnesium alloy body is built to withstand demanding conditions and incorporates dust and moisture resistance for greater reliability when working outdoors.

Advanced Viewing and Connectivity

A high-resolution 2.36-million-dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder offers bright, detailed eye-level viewing with 1.07x magnification and a dedicated 120 fps mode for smoother subject tracking. Complementing the viewfinder is a side-opening 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen LCD that supports high, low, and front-facing shooting angles. Built-in dual-band Wi-Fi enables fast image sharing to mobile devices, while compatibility with Sony's Creators' Cloud platform allows seamless media storage, cloud-based editing, collaboration, and remote camera control via a connected smartphone.

Video, Audio, and Power Flexibility

The a6700 supports USB streaming with UVC/UAC compatibility, enabling direct broadcasts and livestreaming in up to 4K resolution at 30 fps or Full HD at up to 60 fps. Dedicated 3.5mm microphone and headphone ports provide enhanced audio monitoring and recording control, while the Multi Interface Shoe supports compatible digital audio accessories. Power is supplied by Sony's high-capacity Z-series battery, delivering approximately 550 still images or up to 120 minutes of video recording per charge when using the LCD screen. The camera can also be powered or charged directly via USB, making it ideal for extended shoots, streaming sessions, and remote workflows.

Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G Lens

A compact design with superb optics and a power zoom function makes the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 G an ideal choice for all types of creators, whether that means you shoot video, stills, or both. This ultra-wide lens is among the lightest in its class and the constant f/4 aperture strikes an ideal balance that is bright enough for available-light shooting while remaining portable for all-day shoots.

Video-Optimised Performance

Designed with content creators in mind, the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 G features an electronically controlled Power Zoom system that enables smooth and precise focal length transitions during recording. Powered by four XD Linear Motors, zoom operation is fast, quiet, and highly responsive, with control available directly from the lens or compatible camera bodies. The lens also supports Sony's Clear Image Zoom technology, extending reach while maintaining impressive image quality. Additional video-focused features include a de-clickable aperture ring, suppressed focus breathing through Smooth Motion Optics technology, and compatibility with Breathing Compensation on select Alpha cameras.

Advanced Optical Design

Covering an ultra-wide to wide-angle focal range, this lens combines a versatile 16-35mm zoom range with a constant f/4 aperture for consistent exposure and performance. Its advanced optical construction incorporates two Advanced Aspherical elements, one standard aspherical element, a Super ED element, an ED element, and an ED Aspherical element to minimise distortion, spherical aberrations, and chromatic aberrations. The result is exceptional sharpness, clarity, and colour accuracy throughout the zoom range. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm further enhances image quality by producing smooth and attractive background blur.

Fast and Precise Autofocus

A dual XD Linear Motor system delivers quick, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance for both still photography and video recording. Internal focusing maintains a constant lens length during operation while improving responsiveness and handling. Linear Response MF provides a natural manual focusing experience, and a dedicated AF/MF switch allows rapid changes between focus modes. Close-up shooting is equally impressive, with a minimum focusing distance of just 24cm and a maximum magnification of 0.23x for capturing detailed subjects.

Compact and Travel-Friendly Design

Despite its professional performance, the lens remains remarkably lightweight and compact, making it an excellent choice for handheld shooting, travel, gimbal work, and drone applications. Dust and moisture resistance enhance reliability in challenging environments, while a fluorine coating on the front element helps repel dust, moisture, oils, and fingerprints for easier maintenance. Dedicated aperture, focus, and zoom rings provide intuitive control, and the integrated Power Zoom switch offers quick focal length adjustments for a seamless shooting experience.
