Product Overview

NiSi's S+ MC CPL's helps reduce reflection and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter?

The NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter primarily serves to reduce reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces, such as water and glass. By filtering out directionally polarized light that has been scattered due to reflection, this filter enhances image clarity and contrast, making it ideal for landscape photography where you want to achieve richer colours and deeper saturation in the sky and foliage.

How does the waterproof and nano coating benefit the filter's performance?

The waterproof and nano coating on the NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter not only protects the glass from moisture and dirt but also makes it easier to clean. This means that raindrops or fingerprints can be wiped off without leaving marks or affecting image quality. Additionally, this coating helps to reduce lens flare and ghosting, ensuring your images remain sharp and clear even in challenging lighting conditions.

In what situations should I consider using a circular polarizing filter like this one?

A circular polarizing filter is particularly beneficial in situations where you are shooting landscapes, seascapes, or any scene with reflective surfaces. It is excellent for enhancing the blue of the sky on sunny days, making clouds pop, and reducing glare on water surfaces. Additionally, it can improve the saturation of colours in foliage, making greens appear more vibrant, which is especially useful in nature photography.

Can I use the NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter with other accessories, such as lens hoods or filters?

Yes, the ultra-slim frame design of the NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter allows it to be used with most lens hoods and other filters without causing vignetting. However, it is always advisable to check the specific compatibility with your lens and any additional accessories you plan to use, especially if stacking multiple filters together.

How does using a CPL filter affect exposure settings in photography?

When using a circular polarizing filter, you will likely need to adjust your exposure settings. The filter can reduce the amount of light entering the lens by 1.5 to 2 stops, depending on the angle of the light and the amount of polarization. This means you may need to compensate by either using a slower shutter speed, opening up the aperture, or increasing the ISO to maintain the correct exposure for your shot.

Is the NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter suitable for all types of photography?

While the NiSi 52mm S+ MC CPL Filter excels in landscape and nature photography due to its ability to enhance colours and reduce glare, it may not be suitable for all photography types. For example, in portrait photography, using a polarizing filter can sometimes result in uneven skin tones or reduce the sheen in hair. Therefore, it's essential to consider the specific requirements of each photographic scenario before using a CPL filter.
