Expanding Your Creative Horizons from Ultra-Wide 20mm - A Seamless Flow to the Natural 40mm View

The 20-40mm F2.8 features a unique focal range starting at 20mm. At the 20mm ultra wide-angle end, it provides a sense of depth and scale that conventional standard zoom lenses simply cannot match, capturing the full essence of a landscape. At the same time, the range up to 40mm is ideal for everyday snapshots and portraits. When used with APS-C mirrorless cameras, it provides a full-frame equivalent of 30-60mm - offering the flexibility to handle any scene without changing lens.

Mobility and High-Speed, High-Precision AF - The Perfect Support for Video and Vlogging

The compact, lightweight design ensures exceptional handling, offering a significant advantage for video shooting. The 20-40mm F2.8 remains perfectly balanced even when mounted on camera grips or compact gimbals, making it ideal for handheld shooting and vlogging. Additionally, the 20mm focal length lets you capture the broader background while maintaining a comfortable distance for selfies. The AF drive features the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. This high-speed, high-precision system tracks subjects smoothly and accurately from MOD (Minimum Object Distance) to infinity, reliably following moving subjects during video shooting. Furthermore, the quietness of the linear motor allows for inconspicuous shooting in noise-sensitive environments, whether for stills or video.

High Image Quality in a Compact Body - Powered by Specialised Lens Elements

The 20-40mm F2.8 is packed with Tamron's proprietary optical technologies, delivering imaging performance that defies its compact size. The optical construction features 12 elements in 11 groups. By generously incorporating specialised lens elements, including four LD (Low Dispersion), along with two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements, the 20-40mm F2.8 achieves outstanding optical performance. A key highlight is the beautiful, soft bokeh that only a fast F2.8 aperture can provide. Furthermore, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating effectively suppresses ghosting and flare, ensuring clear and crisp images with excellent contrast.

Wide Macro Shooting with an MOD of 0.17m (6.7in) - Discover the Power of Close-Ups

With an MOD of just 0.17m (6.7in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8 at the 20mm wide end, the 20-40mm F2.8 delivers impressive wide macro photography. By getting remarkably close to your subject, you can capture it in stunning detail while still including the expansive background. This allows for powerful, creative expression, emphasizing the unique sense of perspective and depth only wide-angle shooting can provide.

Tamron Lens Utility is an innovative application that lets you assign practical functions to your lens for both video and still photography using your smartphone or PC, eliminating the need for traditional video equipment.

Lightweight and Durable Polycarbonate Resin

Tamron uses polycarbonate resin (engineering plastic) for our lens barrels of mirrorless cameras. This material is extremely reliable, lightweight, and durable, and also broadly used for such as racing car bodies and F1 racer's helmets. Tamron selects the best material from various grades of polycarbonate and selects a material with thermal expansion/shrinkage comparable to that of aluminium in structurally critical areas. And also, these materials must be carefully determined. These processes allow the product to be comfortably used in a variety of environments.

The environment and facilities for manufacturing optical parts are essential to the quality of the parts. Tamron holds all the equipment and environment in-house to manufacture high quality parts. The combination of the most advanced measuring system and the outstanding craftsmanship molding skills make the most of the selected materials, resulting in extremely high-precision, micron-level parts.

These efforts are based on Tamron's extensive know-how and experience in the manufacture of lenses for industrial as well as photographic lenses. Therefore, these lead to highly reliable products for camera enthusiasts and professional photographers.

Tamron develops lenses for mirrorless cameras under the brand statement "Human Focus," aiming to create lenses that are always close to our users. The ergonomic design is based on a thorough investigation of "what makes people feel comfortable" and is focused on ease of use.

Reviewing each part and component down to the finest details, we continue to pursue the development of the best products, including the lens body with a comfortable, uneven shape that fits snugly and naturally in the hand, redesigned striped pattern on the rubber focusing and zoom rings with the appropriate amount of convexity calculated, and the metal parts for the internal mechanism that ensure smooth operability. The design with operability and texture in mind provides a comfortable shooting experience for the users.

The recessed switch box and Focus Set Button* have an unobtrusive, contoured design that smoothly guides the fingers intuitively. The sloped bevel around the slide switch draws your finger naturally to the right position. To prevent accidental operation, the switches have a low profile. Taken altogether, these enhancements provide a more comfortable user experience.

The surface of the lens exterior is shiny black, and its improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints. The smooth touch provides users a sense of trust and reliability through the experience.

The Tamron brand ring, the warm and captivating glow of the luminous gold ring connecting the lens to the camera accentuates the products, distinguishing itself as a symbol of excellence in engineering and design and marking our commitment to deliver joy and to inspire creativity.

Tamron will remain user-centric and study people while designing and manufacturing lenses so that users around the world can fully continue to enjoy photography in their own way.
