Extreme Macro with Over 1:1 Ratio

With a minimum focus distance of 0.26 m (0.86 ft) and more than a 1:1 magnification ratio, this lens reveals fine details and textures invisible to the naked eye.

2.8x Magnification with Teleconverter

Teleconverter support provides extra working distance, allowing photographers to shoot subjects that are difficult to approach while maintaining sharpness and enabling effective lighting.

Breathtaking G Master Resolution and Bokeh

Exceptional Resolution

Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements reduce chromatic and other aberrations for sharp, edge-to-edge clarity. Floating focus minimises aberration variations at close distances, while Nano AR Coating II controls flare and ghosting.

Gorgeous Bokeh

An F2.8 aperture, 11-blade aperture unit, and precision optical elements create smooth, dimensional G Master bokeh with minimal colouration, producing stunning, professional-quality imagery.

Refined Optical Image Stabilisation

Advanced optical stabilisation is optimised for macro photography, minimising shake and maintaining sharpness. Lens-body communication with compatible α cameras enhances stabilisation in both stills and movies (Active Mode).

Fast, Precise, and Quiet Autofocus

Four XD linear motors drive the floating focus group, delivering up to 1.9x faster AF than previous models and supporting high-speed tracking for moving macro subjects. The system is quiet, making it ideal for movie shooting.

Focus Operation Optimised for Macro Shooting

Critical Focus Control

Precise focus is essential when working with a narrow depth of field. The lens allows quick switching between AF and MF modes, and focus magnification can be used to refine critical focus.

Easy Focus Adjustment

The focus ring can instantly return focus to the intended subject in DMF mode, while FULL MF mode offers distance and magnification scales for precise manual focusing.

Customisable Focus Hold Buttons

Focus hold buttons maintain the current focus while held and can be customised to perform functions such as activating focus magnification for precise adjustments.

Linear Manual Focus Response

Linear Response MF ensures the focus ring responds directly and smoothly to subtle manual adjustments, allowing precise control for both stills and movies.

Robust Build for Outdoor Use

Silicone gaskets on buttons and switches, a sealed lens mount, and a fluorine-coated front element protect against dust and moisture. This makes the lens highly durable, even in challenging outdoor conditions.

Environmentally Conscious Design

Sony's "Road to Zero" plan aims to achieve zero environmental footprint by 2050. The lens and packaging materials are designed with sustainability in mind, including non-plastic packaging and plant-based non-woven product bags.
