Nikon 10x42 EDG Binocular

Nikon 10x42 EDG Binocular

Taking its place at the top as one of their flagship series, the Nikon 10x42 EDG Binocular is outfitted with complementary optical technologies that work together to offer the performance required by tactical professionals and discerning hunters, birders, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Every part of the light path gets special attention to improve the view. This starts at the objective lenses through the use of anti-reflection fully multi-coated extra low-dispersion (ED) glass; moves to the prism system, which is phase-corrected and dielectric-coated; and finally comes to the eyepieces, which employ a field-flattener lens system. Together these systems maximize light transmission, eliminate internal interference, and correct spherical and chromatic aberrations to produce bright and clear high-contrast images with accurate colour fidelity across the distortion-free field of view. The powerful magnification makes this EDG binocular ideal for long-range use by allowing for detailed observation of distant subjects, and the 42mm objectives boost light-gathering ability without the bulk and weight of larger models.

Built for comfort and durability, the body design is ergonomically shaped to fit well in the hand for a balanced feel. The chassis is made of a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy that is wrapped in a protective slip-resistant rubber armor. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and submersible to almost 20 feet, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperatures or weather conditions. Nikon includes a set of removable angled eyecups that mold to the side of the user's eye socket. These keep stray peripheral light from interfering with the view and eliminate distractions during viewing. To help alleviate the hand shake and arm fatigue that are common when holding high-power optics such as this, Nikon made this model of the EDG tripod mountable with an optional adapter.

Optical Performance

Powerful 10x magnification allows for detailed observations of distant subjects

42mm objective lens diameter improves low-light performance without excessive bulk or weight

Roof prism light path helps to maintain a slim profile for easier and more comfortable handling

Extra low-dispersion glass reduces chromatic and spherical aberrations for increased contrast, improved colour rendition, and sharpness without distortion across the entire field of view

Highly reflective dielectric prism coatings minimize internal light loss to maintain image brightness and improve contrast and clarity

Phase-corrected prisms eliminate internal interference in the light path to improve contrast and resolution

Anti-reflection, fully multi-coated optics produce bright, high-resolution images

Field-flattener lens system corrects lens-edge distortion for clearer views at the edge of the field of view

60°apparent angle of view helps to minimize the appearance of visible hand shake while presenting an immersive observational experience

341' field of view at 1000 yards

Use and Handling

Short closed-bridge design offers more room for the hands while providing a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism

Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet weather, or while wearing gloves

Locking dioptric correction allows user to correct for optical prescription for sharper views

56-72mm interpupillary adjustment range

Turn-and-slide twist-up/click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear

Tripod mountable with optional adapter

Long 18mm eye relief helps to reduce eye strain and improves viewing comfort

4.2mm exit pupil
