The Insta360 X6 is an 8K 360 camera that records everything around it at once, so you choose your angle afterwards on your phone or computer. It suits adventure travellers, 4WD and motorcycle riders, vloggers and filmmakers who want shots a regular camera can't get. Its main strengths are better low-light footage, direct recording from two Insta360 Mic Pro transmitters and user-replaceable lenses.

Georges' Take
We took the X6 across the Simpson Desert's Madigan Line. The video shows overnight Starlapse footage, the built-in mics in strong wind, and Dolby Vision vs I-Log in real conditions.
From our Simpson Desert crossing:
-
Low light was the biggest step up from the X4. Left on a tripod overnight in Starlapse mode, it tracked the Milky Way down to the horizon.
-
Two Mic Pro transmitters connect straight to the camera, so dialogue is recorded in the video file with nothing to sync later.
-
Use a UHS-I V30 microSD card. Recording also doesn't roll over between the card and internal storage. When one fills, it stops and asks you to switch.
-
The app works but is slow to connect, even on a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
-
In strong wind, the built-in mics sounded slightly better with Intelligent Audio Mode off. For clean dialogue, use Mic Pro.

Key Features:
-
8K 360 video at up to 50fps. More detail to work with when you reframe a flat shot from the 360 file.
-
Two 1/1.1-inch sensors and PureVideo low-light mode (up to 8K30 in 360). Cleaner footage at dusk, around camp and at night.
-
Direct connection for up to two Insta360 Mic Pro or Mic transmitters. Two people's audio recorded straight into the camera, no receiver needed.
-
User-replaceable lenses. A cracked lens is a home fix with a replacement kit, not a repair job.
-
IP68, waterproof to 20 m without a case. Rain, river crossings and swimming without a housing. Use the Invisible Dive Case Pro to go deeper (60 m).
-
Standard, Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log colour profiles. Dolby Vision for great results straight out of camera. I-Log when you'll colour grade or the light is harsh.
Who It Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere
It suits: anyone filming adventure travel, 4WD trips, motorcycle rides, water sports or vlogs. It also suits filmmakers adding a different angle to a production, a bit like a drone.
Look elsewhere if: you mostly film in daylight, only need one wireless mic and won't colour grade. The Insta360 X5 or Insta360 X4 Air costs less. If you just want a conventional action camera, a 360 camera's reframing workflow may be more than you need.
Know before you buy: the X6 won't charge its own battery over USB-C while recording, and Insta360 rates its operating temperature from −20°C to 40°C.

FAQs
What memory card does the Insta360 X6 need?
A microSD card that meets the UHS-I standard with a V30 rating or higher. Avoid UHS-II cards.
Is the Insta360 X6 waterproof?
Yes. It's IP68 rated and waterproof to 20 m without a case. The Insta360 X6 Invisible Dive Case Pro takes it to 60 m.
Can I connect wireless mics to the Insta360 X6?
Yes. Up to two Insta360 Mic Pro or Mic transmitters connect directly over Bluetooth, with no receiver.
Insta360 X6 or X5?
Choose the X6 for better low light, two direct mic connections, 8K at 50fps and longer rated battery life. The X5 costs less and suits daylight shooting with one mic.
What else do I need to get started?
A UHS-I V30 microSD card (256 GB or more for long days), and lens guards if you'll be somewhere rough. Add a selfie stick or mount for the shots you want.
