Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 Cinema Camera

Fujifilm brings its vaunted photographic history to a video-centric form with the GFX ETERNA 55 Cinema Camera. Built around a new large-format sensor that covers Open Gate and a range of additional formats, the GFX ETERNA 55 array of features is designed for exceptional video capture and seamless integration with Fujifilm G lenses.

Native 4:3 Aspect Ratio

Dubbed the GFX ETERNA 55 in a nod to its diagonal sensor size, this camera incorporates one of the tallest sensors currently on the market. Its native 4:3 aspect ratio provides creators with a canvas that is 1.75x greater than 4-perf Super 35.

Five Main Formats

The GFX ETERNA 55 offers five main formats that are paired to specific lens categories:

GF and Premista, for use with Fujifilm lenses.

35mm, anamorphic (35mm), and Super 35, for use with a range of lenses from multiple brands.

Each of these five formats has multiple resolution selections, further expanding your capture options.

Video Formats/Resolutions

The GFX ETERNA 55 expands the GFX100 II's video recording choices with new Open Gate, Super 35, and 2.39:1 anamorphic options using a large 43.8 x 32.9mm sensor.

Open Gate is available in 3.8K 4:3 at rates up to 48 fps.

Super 35 options include 6.3K24 in 16:9, DCI 4K30/UHD 4K30 in 17:9 and 16:9, and up to 1080p60 in 17:9 and 16:9.

Anamorphic 2.39:1 is available in Cine 5.8K up to 30 fps, Super 35 8K24 in 2.39:1, and Super 35 4K24 in 1.2:1.

Anamorphic Ready

The GFX ETERNA's large 4:3 sensor is ready for you to combine with anamorphic lenses, and the camera provides real-time anamorphic de-squeezing for on-set monitoring.

Recording Codecs

Take full advantage of the GFX ETERNA 55 large sensor and internally record video in Apple ProRes 422/HQ/LT, 4:2:2, 10-bit HEVC/H.265, or H.264 or ProRes proxies. Use the HDMI output for external 4:2:2 10-bit uncompressed or 12-bit raw recording.

Custom Frame Guides

Users can create custom frame guides right from the viewfinder with up to three saved for quick access. Aspect ratios range include 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 16:9, 17:9, 2.39:1, and custom. Customisable functions include 1-100% scaling, four line widths, and five colour options.

Fujifilm G and ARRI PL Mounts

The native Fujifilm G-mount ETERNA 55 camera is compatible with existing G-mount lenses and the new power-zoom G 32-90mm lens, which is optimised for this camera and features autofocus and auto iris functions, as well as geared focus, iris, and zoom rings. The included ARRI PL-mount adapter provides compatibility with an array of cine-style lenses and Cooke /i lens data where available.

Variable ND Filter

The built-in variable electronic ND filter lets you adjust your exposure without stopping down or opening up on your lens, ideal for bright exteriors, slow shutter effects, and shallow depth-of-field looks. This dial-control filter varies from ND 0.6 to ND 2.1, providing a range of two to seven stops in visually stepless .015 increments.

Low-Pass Filter

New to the GFX line, the included OLPF (optical low-pass filter) helps to reduce colour anomalies and moire effects, especially helpful when shooting with LED wall backgrounds.

Hot Swapping

An internal NP-W235 battery enables external battery hot swapping or switching to DC power input. This battery is automatically charged when the camera is attached to an external power source.

5" Monitor and Dual 3" Displays

The GFX ETERNA 55 features dual built-in 3" touchscreens with 4:3 aspect ratios and 700 cd/m² brightness. Located on both sides of the camera, these displays provide easy control access for both the operator and the A.C. The GFX ETERNA 55 external 5" touchscreen colour LCD monitor provides a 16:9 aspect ratio and 2000 cd/m² brightness for daylight visibility.

Dedicated Top Handle

The included top handle features a multifunctional left-side dial that can be assigned to ND filter control or to focus, iris, or zoom control when paired with an electronically controlled lens. This handle has a sliding rail base, letting you quickly adjust your camera balance for hand-holding after a lens change, battery addition, etc.

Connectivity

Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet enable a range of features, including Frame.io compatibility, browser-based remote control for focus, iris, zoom, and more. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) will be supported using the Fujifilm TG-BT1 tripod grip or an Atomos AirGlu Ambient device.
