Fresh Image Sensor and Fast Processor. A Step Above the a7 III

Let's cut to the chase and talk about the driving force behind the Sony a7 IV. If you like the Sony a7 III powerhouse, you'll like the a7 IV even more! In terms of processing power and photo-image quality, the a7 IV takes the impressive power of the a7 III and elevates it several notches. It supports a redesigned back-illuminated 33 MP CMOS Exmor R image sensor. The same Exmor R sensor drives the insane image quality of Sony a1 and Sony a7S III flagship mirrorless camera bodies. As a result, the Exmor R image sensor is the latest and greatest generation of Sony imaging technology.

As for the image processor, the Sony a7 IV camera packs the incredibly powerful BIONZ XR Processor - again, it's the same as found on the top-tier Sony flagship bodies. It will punch out a continuous burst shooting at 10fps and run wild at up to 800 jpeg images (at a high shutter speed, it sounds incredible - regardless of using the mechanical shutter or electronic shutter). All without running out of power, thanks to the 580-shot battery running off the one charge.

Sony a7 IV Impressive Stills and Video Settings

One thing is for sure; the Sony a7 IV is more than just a refresh of the hugely popular predecessor Sony a7 III. It's a generational evolution to deliver higher performance, more advanced features and impressive outcomes for visual creatives. The Sony a7S III and Sony a1 flagship models have kindly allowed the a7 IV to inherit the advanced heat-dissipating structure. As a result, you can record 4K 60p 10 Bit RAW 4:2:2 video without concern for well over an hour. One key feature is the auto-closing mechanical shutter to cover the sensor whenever the camera is powered off or change lenses. The shutter prevents the sensor being exposed to the elements and prevents dust and moisture entering the camera to impact the sensor.

Stunning Image Quality In Every Shot

The Sony a7 IV delivers exceptional still photography colour reproduction accuracy along with mesmerizing skin textures and tones. Portrait photographers will like how it reproduces smooth, realistic and healthy-looking skin tones in RAW files. To further elevate the creative outcomes achieved with the a7 IV, it features Creative Look options for both still mode and movie mode. Creative Look is like a series of look filters that includes ten types and eight selectable parameters.

Along with the 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization delivering 5.5 stops of light, the a7 IV works in the dark! An industry-leading 15-stops of dynamic range further elevate image quality to optimize photo outcomes in any lighting scenario. Further to this, the full-frame a7 IV has a few tricks up its sleeve, including improved AWB due to Visible Light and IR Sensor technology. As for low light stills photography and videography, the a7 IV has a standard 100 to 51200 ISO. It effortlessly expands to 50 to 204800 for still shooting and an impressive 50 to 1024000 for videography and low light movie recording. Sony's exposure compensation is second to none!

Sony a7 IV Advanced Auto Focus

It's undisputed that Sony holds the crown for the most responsive, reliable and advanced auto focus system - thanks to the predecessor Sony a7 III! The better Sony a7 IV inherits years of perfection auto focus to now be the envy of the camera world. Photographers and videographers will value the persistence of real-time tracking (af tracking) to ensure focus is sharp with every frame. The Sony a7 IV uses a comprehensive focusing system that optimizes the 759 phase-detection AF points covering 94% of the frame. Phase-detection AF is one of the most standout features of the camera!

Evolved Videography That Performs

If you thought the Sony a7 IV demonstrated exceptional stills photography, wait until you get a load of its future-focused video output! The a7 IV is the ideal full-frame mirrorless camera to capture stunning 4K 60p video with various recording options. As a result, the a7 IV is well suited to enthusiasts who want to use a pro body and learn the finer arts of videography as much as professionals delving deep into menus and settings. With the added 4K video ability, it makes sense to upgrade from the previous a7 III and use this camera for all your creative work.
