DJI FPV Combo: These Will Fly Off The Shelves!
DJI fans are quoting "take my money" at the moment, thanks to the hype surrounding their latest offering, the DJI FPV Combo. This second version has been highly anticipated among the racing and cinematography cohorts, so there's no doubt these will fly off the shelf.
The Chinese company continues to dominate the consumer market for drones; however, their engineers haven't stopped there. Enterprise, agricultural and commercial drones are just as dominating, but it's the racing community that has felt left out of the technology race.
The previous DJI FPV version has been out for several years, which has seen many enthusiasts build their own 'better' versions. While this has mainly been out of frustration, the feeling of zen has fallen upon the community with the release of the DJI FPV Combo. No more do users have to struggle with DIY builds when DJI has a complete turn-key option awaiting them.
There are some significant updates to the FPV drone itself and the Goggles in the new release. In the DJI FPV Combo box, you'll get the DJI FPV Drone, FPV Controller, and DJI FPV Goggles V2. In this article, we will cover some of the technical specs and what you should expect when purchasing this incredible tech.
What To Expect with the DJI FPV Drone
The DJI FPV drone itself is a technological feat. Its not-so-large body is beautifully built. The strength of the outer shell seems robust enough for people on the go. Plus, for those wanting some extra protection and some extra flair, DJI includes a polycarbonate skin that clips on with ease. There's no doubt we will see several custom designs available for this, either from DJI themselves or from a third party.
The critical tri-blades are built with precision. They adopt the same easy push-down, twist and turn clip mechanism, which is excellent for setup and pack down. They aid the DJI FPV drone to fly up to some incredible speeds, making these the perfect racer or cinematographers tool.
The camera is what you would expect in a DJI product - excellent. It transmits 12 megapixels of 4K resolution. Frame rates are just as impressive with two options at the highest quality, 50p and 60p. If you're not after the highest gold quality, then there's also a silver version known as FHD. At this resolution, you can stretch out the frame rate to capture some impressive slow-motion of 100p or 120p.
Surrounding the lens, you'll find a darken shell that not only protects the camera's vitals but also acts as a neutral density filter. Gone are the days of adding a filter with extra weight to the camera, so this will undoubtedly come in hand when shooting on bright sunny days. The 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor is also first-grade, which will help control the high dynamic range in high-contrast environments. Below are some of the other stand out specs you can expect with this racy product:

The version two battery life contributes to 110 minutes of vision for the DJI FPV Goggles V2 (at 25ºC). The 22V 2000mAh 6S LiPo battery for the DJI FPV V2 rates at 20 minutes of flight time (rated at 40 km/h) and charges quickly with a maximum charging of 90W.
DJI FPV Controller That's Better
Looking more like the latest Nintendo Switch or Sony Playstation controller, the DJI FPV Controller is a comfortable control mechanism. Its overall size has reduced compared to past DJI controllers as it is slim and ergonomic rather than bulky and boxy. As for specs, the controller weighs 346g and is capable of transmitting up to 10km via 2.4/5.8 GHz.
Key to the flight controls is a pair of joysticks that provide fluid movement and a corresponding action from the DJI FPV Drone. For storage purposes, the twin sticks can be unscrewed and tucked away safely inside the grips. The top of the controller features a folding antenna that folds away underneath the unit - again making it ideal for carrying in a camera bag.
