Sony HXR-NX80 4K NXCAM Camcorder
The Sony HXR-NX80 features a 1-inch stacked RS CMOS image sensor. The high sensitivity, back-illuminated sensor is capable of utilising light more efficiently to capture images with low noise and low rolling shutter. Shoot with stunning clarity and realistic colours even in dimly lit light conditions, without relying on additional external lighting.
The large sensor size of the NX80 also enables beautiful defocused backgrounds in spectacular 4K resolution. Coupled to a high performance BIONZ X image processor, the camcorder achieves high-resolution, high frame rate continuous recording with fast, precise autofocus.
4K and Full HD Recording
The camcorder records 4K (3840 x 2160) and HD (1920 x 1080) using the advanced XAVC-S H.264 codec that combines stunning picture quality with workflow flexibility and storage efficiency. For compatibility with legacy systems, the camera also offers AVCHD recording.
120fps Slow Motion Recording in Full HD
Using Sony’s Slow & Quick Motion recording, the HXR-NX80 can record at 1 to 120 frames per second in Full HD without a time limit to deliver gorgeous 5x slow motion and beautiful time lapse sequences. Additionally, Burst mode recording at frame rates of up to 960fps for super slow motion sequences are also possible using S&Q motion cache recording.
Hybrid Auto Focus with Advanced Features
The HXR-NX80 incorporates Sony’s Fast Hybrid Auto Focus system. Using 273 focus points covering 84% of the frame, the system combines the strengths of both Phase Detection and Contrast Detection for amazingly fast and precise auto focus. In addition, 4K face detection and object tracking technology make it easy to lock-on and hold focus on fast-moving subjects such as sports or children at play.
The AF Drive Speed, Tracking Depth Range and Subject Switching Sensitivity can be configured as required for different subjects and content styles.
Instant HDR Workflow with Hybrid Log Gamma
The camcorder records 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) content for breath-taking imagery with a wide colour gamut and colour range. To deliver HDR content quickly with minimum post-production work and additional colour grading, the camcorder offers Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording in HDR, and supports S-Log3 encoding for added versatility.
Zeiss Vario-Sonnar Wide Angle Zoom Lens
Optimised for 4k recording, the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens with the Sony’s T* coatings offers impressive contrast and resolution. The 29 mm wide-angle focal length (35 mm equiv.) features a 12x optical zoom that extends seamlessly to 18x (in 4K) or 24x (in Full HD) using Sony’s Clear Image. The Digital Extender doubles this range to 48x in Full HD. The versatile focal range allows capturing a wide range of photographic scenarios from sweeping landscapes to intimate close-ups.
Integrated ND Filters
Built-in 2, 4 and 6 stop ND filters let you control depth of field and exposure under various lighting conditions. The filters can be electronically activated so you do not have to stop shooting and screw on a filter on the lens.
High-Resolution OLED Viewfinder and LCD Monitor
A 1cm 2359K dot highly responsive OLED EVF eliminates colour breaking and offers stunning brightness and contrast to enable precise manual focusing and easy viewing in bright daylight conditions. For added compositional versatility the camcorder is supplemented by a 3.5" 1550K dot touchscreen LCD monitor.
Dual Storage Media Slots for Recording Flexibility
To endure long recording time without worrying about memory status, the NX80 is equipped with double memory card slots that accept readily-available SDHC/SDXC cards. The slots are also compatible with the Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2) / PRO-HG Duo. In case the first memory card is full, the Relay mode automatically switches recording to the second card. For an instant back-up, the Simul mode enables simultaneous recording to both memory cards, adding instant security and redundancy to your workflow.
Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe
Sony’s flexible Multi-Interface Shoe provides the convenience of power, signal connections and coordinated on/off switching with compatible Sony accessories such as flashes, wireless microphones or video lights without additional connecting cables.
Remote Operations and Multi Camera Control
Using the included wired remote commander enables you to remotely control the focus, zoom, start/stop and review recording. When used in conjunction with Sony’s MCX-500 switcher (available separately), the system creates a simple yet efficient live solution, enabling a single operator to easily operate a multi-camera live production.
You can also synchronise timecode of multiple camcorders using the optional Wireless Timecode Link (CBKZ-WTCL) through the Content Browser Mobile smartphone app.
Wi-Fi Streaming and NFC Connectivity
Using Sony’s Content Browser Mobile app, live camera feed can be monitored and camera functions such as start/stop recording, zoom, iris control and touch auto focus can be remotely controlled from a smartphone or tablet over a Wireless connection. Built-in NFC connectivity helps easy pairing with NFC-enabled devices for fast, convenient set up.
Versatile Connections for Professional Work Flow
Two balanced XLR audio inputs with 48V phantom power deliver high quality audio input options, equipping you with the ability to add professional grade microphones. The NX80 features a built-in microphone and speaker, headphone output, AV USB port and an HDMI video output terminal for HD footage to be fed to an external monitor.
Lightweight and Compact Design for high mobility
Weighing a little over 1kg, the palm sized Sony’s HXR NX 80 enables efficient handheld shooting with minimum fatigue. Its compact form factor and detachable handle enable shooting in environments where large cameras cannot be used or in situations that demand mobility, such as event coverage, electronic news gathering or documentary film making.
