The D7000 is a new addition to Nikon’s SLR range, bringing with it some pretty impressive features including 16 Megapixels, Full HD video with full time autofocus, Twin SD card slots and a new 2016 pixel Matrix metering system.

Although it sports a very similar look and feel to the D90, the D7000 is not designed to be a replacement. It does however include many enhancements; the D7000 outperforms the D90 in auto focus and the high ISO performance exceeds that of the D90. It also has newly featured twin SD card slots which offer extra storage and live back up of photos.

A further comparison of the models is listed in the following table;

The D7000 has the same 3 inch, high resolution (920k dot) monitor as the D90 however with all the upgrades this camera has, it would have been preferable that the monitor have some form of articulation and not be fixed. In a market where many key competitors are offering this feature (Canon in particular) it would have given this camera an added advantage.

Monitor aside, many people are claiming the D7000 is Nikon’s best SLR camera ever so it is certainly worth a look. It is suitable for anyone who currently owns (or is looking at purchasing) the D90 and wants to take advantage of the upgrades Nikon has added to this feature packed camera.

It is also a great option for amateur enthusiasts who want to take professional shots but are not ready to make the full investment in a pro DSLR.
